Marvin A. Towell Sr. age 91, 1383 North US 27 Portland passed away Saturday evening at Swiss Village in Berne. He was born in Randolph County July 27, 1926 the son of Harold and Vera (Stauffer) Towell. He was married to Mary Jones in 1951 and she died in 1983, he then married Nadine Hoskins in 1985 and she survives. He was a WW II US Navy veteran and 1945 graduate of Bryant High School. He was a member of American Legion Post 777 in Redkey and The Rock Church in Portland. He retired from Indiana Department of Transportation and worked 32 years at Jay County Farm Bureau Co-op. He was a lifetime member of Miami Valley Coin and Relic Hunters Club , Federation of Metal Detector and Archeological Club and Jay County Historical Society.
Surviving are his wife Nadine, one son M. Allen Towell (wife Debbie) of Portland, Five step-children Wanda Ballard (husband Darrell) of Parrish, FL., Marilyn McCord (husband Russell) of Fort Wayne, Harold Towell (wife Sandy) of Portland, Charles Towell of Geneva and Margaret Lane of Rock Hill, SC. One brother Elvin Towell of Portland, Half-brother Roy Emery of Ft. Recovery, Ohio, Two sisters Ruth McMichael of Lebanon, Ohio and Clara Reitenour (husband George) of Cookeville, TN., Several grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by step-son John Towell
Funeral services will be Friday at 10:00 AM in the Rock Church with Pastor Mark Hinshaw presiding. Burial will follow in the Gravel Hill Cemetery with military graveside rites by American Legion Post 211. Visitation will be Thursday from 3:00 – 7:00 PM in the Baird-Freeman Funeral Home and Friday from 9:00 – 10:00 at the church. Memorials can be made to the Rock Church or Choice of the Donor.
