Robert L. King age 81, of rural Portland passed away Wednesday September 18, 2019 in Parkview Randallia Hospital in Fort Wayne. He was born in Lebanon on October 3, 1937 the son of Carl and Mildred Ann (Coffin) King. He was married on December 22, 1957 to Gloria Ann Linder and she passed away on September 14, 1992. He had worked for Standard Register as a salesman and in 1960 opened an office in Muncie. He was awarded National Sales Leader for twenty five years. In 1991 he started his business Phoenix and Associates and he also was engaged in farming. He was a graduate of Lebanon High School and Earlham College where he played football and baseball. He was a deacon and elder in the First Presbyterian Church and member of Portland Optimist. He was commissioner of Pee Wee Football in he 70's and 80's and coached Little League Baseball.
He is survived by two sons Kirk King of New Haven and Mark King of Portland, one daughter Kerri Bedingham (husband David) of Madison, In., one brother John King (wife Dorla) of Lebanon, Eleven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Sunday September 22, 2019 at 4:00 PM in the Baird-Freeman Funeral Home with Pastor Hugh Kelly presiding. Visitation will be Sunday from 12:00 – 4:00 PM. Memorials can be made to the Jay County Humane Society or Midwest Pet Refuge.
